Finding the perfect foundation

Updated: Mar 8, 2019

Hello Beautiful!

Ladies, we have all been there…in the store trying to see what foundation matches the best to our skin. Beauty gurus and everyday makeup lovers have different tips and tricks to finding the perfect foundation. I have found over the years the perfect shade of foundation.

Now if you can’t tell, I am mix raced so I have had a very hard time finding my perfect foundation. I have also talked about this in my YouTube videos.

To start off, I would suggest figuring out what undertone your skin has. You can have a cool undertone which has pink, red, or blueish tones and you easily get sun-burned. A person who has warm undertones has golden, olive, or yellowish tones and tans easily. Now you might be thinking, I am both of these! Well don’t worry, you would be a neutral undertone with a mix of warm and cool, and tans just a little bit.

Once you have found this out, I would suggest finding the right amount of coverage that you want on your face. There is full, sheer, or medium coverage. Now I can’t really help you on this because this is your choice. Although, if you want a small or natural coverage I would suggest getting the sheer. Full coverage is going to cover up redness and helps improve textures on the face. Medium coverage is the sweet spot right in the middle.

Next, there is the formula of the foundation. The formula could be powder, liquid, or cream foundation. I use a liquid foundation by Black Opal. Then, there is the look of the foundation after you are finished. The finish could be dewy (good for dry faces), matte (good for oily faces), or natural (good for the in-between).

When finding your right foundation color, you are trying to match the shade of your skin tone to the shade of the foundation. Use your neck to compare the foundation and the skin. Do NOT use your hand to match the found. Your foundation will never be worn on your hand, it is meant for your face! I am sure we have all been mismatched at one point or another, especially during season changing.

If you need more help, stores like Sephora, Clinique, and Ulta Beauty have foundation specialists that will help you find the perfect shade for your skin. Or leave a comment on my YouTube channel and I may be able to help you out!

I hope this helps.
